Nimue was once a student of Merlin's according to many Arthurian myths. In some cases she is the Lady of the Lake as well. In our tale she is the former student and love of Merlin. It is her betrayal of Merlin that is pivotal to our tale. Without his staff Merlin is ensnared in a trap of Morgana Le Fey's design. When her lust for power was denied Nimue turns to Morgana and falls into a trap of a different sort. After having betrayed and trapped Merlin she is not rewarded with great power as Morgana promised, she escapes with her life and vanishes into obscurity.
